OREM — Farmington captured the 5A state drill team championship on Saturday at UVU, ending Bountiful’s three-year reign as state champs.

Farmington finished first in military and dance and second in character en route to the state title in just its second season. Viewmont finished second, followed by Spanish Fork in third.

“This season has had ups and downs. We have focused on our team and our team only, trying to improve our routines with each performance. Saturday was an amazing day for every member of our team before awards were even announced. The win was definitely the cherry on top,” said Farmington coach Marci Hartvigsen. “

“The support from our parents, student body, administration and parents is unmatched. The other 5A teams were supportive and kind. We appreciate this crazy sport called drill that teaches the kids life skills they will never forget. We thank Nixelle Nation (our supporters). Definitely a team effort for this win! So grateful it was our night.”
