SALT LAKE CITY — Utah native Annie Young won the Oklahoma Women’s Amateur Thursday with a 6 and 4 victory over Sydney Herrmann.

Young, who grew up in Highland and whose maiden name is Thurman, is the women’s golf coach at the University of Tulsa and a two-time winner of the Utah Women’s Amateur. She previously coached at Oklahoma State and Colorado State.

The 37-year-old Young played for Lone Peak High School and won the Utah Women’s Amateur in 2002 and 2003 and went on to star at Oklahoma State. She was the first woman to play in the Utah Men’s Amateur in 2003.

She also won the U.S. Women’s Public Links in 2002 and helped the United States win the Curtis Cup in 2004. As a professional, Young competed on the LPGA Tour, Duramed Futures Tour and the Cactus Tours, where she owns five career victories.

Young, the No. 7 seed who won five matches this week to capture the title, won four of the first eight holes Thursday and No. 11 to go 5 up and closed out the match on the 14th hole with an 18-foot birdie putt.
