It was a bit stressful down the stretch, but the BYU Cougars came away with their third straight win on Thursday night, beating the San Francisco Dons 79-73 at the Marriott Center in Provo. The victory was the Cougars’ fifth in their last six games.

Here are three keys from the contest.

  • BYU shot 59 percent from the field compared to just 38 percent for San Francisco, although the Dons were able to counter that a bit by making seven more free throws and one more 3-pointer.
  • The Cougars won the assist battle by 10 (23-13) and the rebounding battle by six (35-29).
  • Alex Barcello scored BYU’s last seven points over the final 1:37 of the game as San Francisco tried to make a late rally. For the night, Barcello led all scorers with 29 points and set a school record by going a perfect 7 of 7 from behind the 3-point line.
