The Utah Hockey Club announced Friday morning that leading goal scorer Dylan Guenther is out indefinitely with a lower-body injury. Josh Doan has been recalled from the minors in his stead.

Through 40 games this season, Guenther has 16 goals and 34 points. He has found success on the power play with his Ovechkin-style one-timers.

Doan started the season in the NHL, scoring a goal and an assist in nine games. The team sent him to the AHL in late October, where he has tallied eight goals and 21 points in 25 games — good enough to be named an AHL all-star.

Whether he’s eligible to participate in the AHL all-star events will depend on which league he’s playing in when the festivities happen in the first weekend of February.

In an interview with the Deseret News in December, Doan said he was trying to make the most of his opportunity in the AHL — just like his father, Arizona Coyotes legend Shane Doan, did around the same age.

“Confidence is a separation factor at this level,” Doan said. “When you’re scoring, you’re feeling good and your game is elevated. When you’re not, you tend to grip the stick a little bit tighter.”

Doan scored nine points in 11 games with the Coyotes at the end of last season.
