The New Orleans Saints are the last team in the NFL to be without a head coach for next season, but that could be changing soon.

On Tuesday night, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore “remains the most likely head coach in New Orleans,” though he cautioned that “nothing is, or can be, finalized at this point.”

Garafolo’s report came on the heels of a report from his NFL Network colleague Tom Pelissero that former Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy won’t be pursuing the Saints job any longer (incidentally, Moore was in the running for the job to replace McCarthy in Dallas, but the Cowboys promoted offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer).

Moore and the Eagles will be playing in the Super Bowl on Feb. 9. Moore has interviewed twice with the Saints, Garafolo reported.

Moore, 36, is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the same faith of New Orleans players Taysom Hill and Dallin Holker.

Moore played collegiately at one of BYU’s rivals, Boise State, where he was one of the nation’s best quarterbacks for several years. He was a seldom-used player in the NFL from 2012-2017 with the Detroit Lions and Cowboys before getting into coaching in 2018 as Dallas’ quarterbacks coach.

Moore was then the Cowboys’ offensive coordinator from 2019-2022 before leaving for the same position with the Los Angeles Chargers. After the 2023 season with the Chargers, he was hired in February of last year to be the Eagles’ offensive coordinator, replacing former Utah Utes quarterback and offensive coordinator Brian Johnson, who spent this season on the Washington Commanders’ coaching staff.

Should Moore get hired by the Saints, he would become the second member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to be a current head coach in the NFL, joining Kansas City Chiefs legendary leader Andy Reid.

Incidentally, it is the Chiefs whom the Eagles will face in the Super Bowl.

New Orleans is looking for a new head coach after going 5-12 this season.
