Proverbial shockwaves were sent through the NBA late Saturday night as ESPN’s Shams Charania first reported that a trade has been agreed upon that will send Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers and Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks.
Charania reported that as part of the deal, the Utah Jazz will acquire Lakers second-year guard Jalen Hood-Schifino and two 2025 second-round draft picks.
It has not been reported what the Jazz will be sending out in the deal.
Other parts of the deal include the Lakers acquiring Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris from the Mavericks and Dallas acquiring wing Max Christie and a 2029 first-round draft pick from Los Angeles (note that is not the Lakers first round pick that Utah owns. That one is a 2027 pick that will likely now decrease in value).
Hood-Schifino was the 17th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft by the Lakers out of Indiana. A 6-foot-5, 210-pound point guard who played one season of college basketball, the 21-year-old Hood-Schifino has appeared in 23 NBA games and has spent most of his time in the NBA G League with the South Bay Lakers.
The Jazz were already involved in a deal earlier Saturday that sent Drew Eubanks and Patty Mills to the Los Angeles Clippers in exchange for PJ Tucker, Mo Bamba, a future second-round pick and cash.
