As the NBA trade deadline chaos swirled on Thursday, the Utah Jazz joined the fray for one final move.

The Jazz sent Dennis Schröder (acquired on Wednesday night) to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for KJ Martin, Josh Richardson and a future second-round pick.

In order to make room for the trade and also keep an open roster spot following the trade deadline, the Jazz are expected to waive Jalen Hood-Schifino and Josh Richardson, according to league sources.

The pick that the Jazz received in the deal will be the least favorable 2028 second-rounder between four different teams (this will be ironed out in the upcoming trade call with the league office).

After a whirlwind of a week that has included numerous block buster deals across the league, it is worth reviewing what the Jazz acquired and sent out leading up to the 2025 trade deadline.

In all, the Jazz were in five deals and will end up having waived three players.

First, the Jazz consolidated picks by sending three lower value first-rounders to the Phoenix Suns for a 2031 unprotected first.

Then, the Jazz sent Drew Eubanks and Patty Mills to the Los Angeles Clippers and got back Mo Bamba, P.J. Tucker, a 2030 second-round pick and cash considerations. The Jazz waived Bamba.

The third deal the Jazz were involved in was the Luka Doncic trade, albeit in a very minor way. In that transaction the Jazz sent out $110,000 (split between the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers) and received Jalen Hood-Schifino, a 2025 Clippers second rounder and a 2025 second rounder from Dallas (technically this pick will take the most favorable from Washington, Golden State and Detroit and compare it against Dallas’ second-round pick, the least favorable of those two picks will go to Utah).

Then the Jimmy Butler trade happened Wednesday night and the Jazz got Dennis Schröder and a 2031 second-round pick from the Miami Heat, which will be the more favorable between the Heat’s and Indiana Pacers’ picks.

On Thursday the Jazz agreed to send Schröder and to Detroit for Martin, Richardson and a 2028 second rounder. In order to make room on the roster for this deal to be completed the Jazz will have to waive Hood-Schifino.

Additionally, league sources have said that the Jazz are expected to waive Richardson. This will mean the Jazz have 14 fully rostered players, an open roster spot and three two-way players following the trade deadline.
