The Jazz are getting creative with their treasure trove of future first round draft picks.

Utah has agreed to send three first round selections to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for their 2031 first rounder, the team announced Tuesday evening.

The trade was first reported by NBA insider Shams Charania of ESPN.

The Jazz will give Phoenix their least valuable picks for 2025, 2027 and 2029. Utah had eight total firsts from those three years, with six of them having been acquired in the blockbuster Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell trades of 2022.

The Suns previously did not have a single first round draft selection until 2031 as a result of other deals the team had made in pursuit of stars such as Kevin Durant.

The influx of draft capital from the Jazz hints that Phoenix could be looking to make another move — potentially in trading for disgruntled Miami Heat All-Star Jimmy Butler — and now would have the necessary picks to make it happen.

As for Utah, the Jazz still have 11 first round picks in the next seven years. The 2031 pick from the Suns — which is unprotected — could become extremely valuable if the team bottoms out in the future, leading the Jazz brain trust to bet on such a possibility by shipping off three of their least valuable draft assets to acquire it.
