The 2025-2026 high school girls basketball season gets underway this week with the official start of the season on Tuesday. To prepare fans for the upcoming season, the Deseret News has put together capsules for every team in 6A. Every coach was invited to participate and submit information.
The region rankings are based on coaches preseason projections.
There are four new head basketball coaches in 6A this year: Morganne Madsen (Copper Hills), Matt Montgomery (Mountain Ridge), Robert Harmon (American Fork) and Nick Taylor (Corner Canyon)

Region 1
1. Syracuse Titans
Head coach: Braden Hamlin (8th year).
2024-25 record: 20-4 (first in Region 1 with a 9-1 record).

Coach comment: We are extremely excited to start the season. The girls have put in a lot of work and have improved in many areas over the off season. We are excited to compete this year and feel like we are making gains each year to accomplish the goals we have for our team. It is a pleasure to coach this group of girls as they are very coachable, great teammates, and always willing to play hard each day.
5. Layton Lancers
Head coach: Jerrell Stewart (2nd year).

Coach comment: We’re going to build on last year’s momentum. With another year of development and leadership from our returning players, we’re focused on taking the next step as we move up to 6A. We’ll be tested early with a tough preseason schedule, but this will prepare us for 6A and the intensity of region play. With veteran leadership and improved depth, we’ll compete, play our tough brand of basketball and hopefully make the Cedar Valley faithful happy.
3. Bingham Miners

Coach comment: This year, we have a young team as we graduated eight seniors. We look to build chemistry with so many inexperienced players getting major minutes this coming year. Although we are lacking experience, the girls have been playing hard and have been playing the right way. We look to compete in the preseason to help us prepare for the toughest region in 6A. I’m excited to work with so many girls hungry to compete and get better.
4. Mountain Ridge Sentinels

This group is very close, loves to compete, has a great mix of veterans and youth, and is hungry for even more success this season.
7. Herriman Mustangs
Head coach: Devin Olenick (2nd year).
2024-25 record: 3-21 (sixth in Region 2 with a 0-10 record).
