The Utah Mammoth have traded JJ Peterka to the Boston Bruins for multiple first-round picks — No. 23 in Friday’s draft and the Florida Panthers’ first-rounder in 2028.

In the event that Florida’s pick falls inside the top 10, Boston will have the option to send its own 2029 first-round pick to Utah instead.

Peterka, a speedy 24-year-old winger, was traded to Utah last summer after spending five seasons in the Buffalo Sabres organization, but after a 68-point season in 2023-24, he managed just 47 points in his lone year with the Mammoth.

Peterka’s ice time decreased year over year by an average of more than two minutes per game, culminating in being benched for a period and a half in Game 4 of the Mammoth’s first round playoff series against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Offensive numbers aside, Peterka’s defensive growth this season was astronomical. His even-strength on-ice goals against decreased from 77 to 48, with just five more games played.

The Mammoth now have two picks in Friday’s first round of the draft, No. 19 and No. 23.

“I would like to thank JJ for his commitment to our organization,” said Mammoth GM Bill Armstrong. “JJ is a great person and will be a dynamic player for Boston.”
