For the third time since Utah football began allowing media to watch a brief observation period during training camp, journalists were able to take in the opening 20 minutes of Utes practice Tuesday.

The primary amount of that time, the team was involved in individual position drills and some special teams work, though at the end, the media was able to watch a bit of run game work, like they had last Saturday at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

My focus during positional drills was on the offensive and defensive lines.

How Utah will be in the trenches is arguably the most important question mark going into the 2026 season, with all the attrition from last year’s squad.

New offensive line coach Jordan Gross continues to impress with his ability to explain what he is looking for from his offensive lineman, and in the video above, I’ve included a segment where he coaches them through technique involved in a sled drill.

During those few minutes of run game work, the media again was able to watch as running backs like Daniel Bray, LaMarcus Bell and Steve Chavez-Soto earned carries.

For those who love a good hit, Rabbit Evans popped Bray on one of the first running plays of the session (at the 0:37-second mark in the video).

Even Morgan Scalley got into the spirit of the having the media on hand Tuesday, jokingly chiding a few journalists to “hustle” as they left practice.

No comment on if the media was able to show off the kind of hustle he was looking for — though I looked good in my Brooks Mickey Mouse shoes. 😉
