The prognosis isn’t good for second-year New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart.
The Utah native sustained a knee injury during the first quarter of the Giants’ 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night, as he was hit by a pair of defenders while throwing a third-down pass.
Dart never returned to the game and was replaced by Jameis Winston.
On Tuesday afternoon, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo reported that his knee injury is “worse than anticipated” and that Dart will be out for an extended period of time, perhaps even season-ending.
“It’s an ongoing conversation about the health of a player, of a person,” Giants coach John Harbaugh said on a video call with reporters Tuesday, according to ESPN. “We’ve got to prepare for the range of possibilities.”
The former Corner Canyon and Roy High quarterback was a first-round pick by New York last season and was inserted into the starting lineup for 12 games as a rookie, going 4-8 as the starter.
He entered the 2026 campaign as the Giants’ undisputed starter, and in Week 1, Dart led New York to a 28-20 win over the Dallas Cowboys.
In that game, Dart completed 23 of 29 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 54 yards on 11 carries.
Before leaving Monday’s contest at the end of the Giants’ first series, Dart had completed 3 of 5 passes for 20 yards.
