A mysterious monolith that showed up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, outside a candy shop seems to have been stolen, PennLive.com reports.
What’s going on?
The mysterious monolith first appeared outside of Grandpa Joe’s Candy Shop just days after monoliths appeared here in Utah, Romania, California, the Netherlands and the Isle of Wight.
Candy store owner Christopher Beers put up the monolith to help attract business to his store, according to WPXI.
- Monoliths in Romania, Utah, California and in Europe don’t have a specific origin.
- “I was heartbroken this morning to find someone had taken my original monolith overnight,” Beers told WPXI.
Beers said his team will develop a new monolith to keep people spirited during the holiday season.
- “I immediately gathered my team and we started building a bigger and better monolith. I just want it to be here. It supports the people who are coming out to see it. I hope this one lasts longer than the last one,” Beers told WPXI.
Who stole it?
It’s unclear who stole the Pittsburgh monolith. But Grandpa Joe from “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” has gained a rather suspicious reputation in recent years, so, no one is off the table.
The monolith craze:
The Utah monolith craze began about two weeks ago. The mysterious Utah monolith was discovered by a team of biologists, which prompted a social media reaction from all over the world. Later, a mystery monolith appeared in Romania. Then, one showed up in California. A fourth one later showed up at the Isle of Wight in the United Kingdom.
