Gary Hagen, assistant chief of police in Rexburg, Idaho, sent out a statement to the media over the weekend about Joshua “JJ” Vallow, the missing son of Lori Vallow.

  • The statement read: “We would like everyone to know that today (May 25th) is J.J. Vallow’s 8th birthday and that we continue to hope and pray for the safe return of both of these beautiful children each and every day.”
  • Joshua Vallow and his sister, Tylee Ryan, have not been seen since September 2019.
  • Lori Vallow Daybell is currently in jail in Madison County, Idaho, on a $1 million bond. She awaits trial on charges of desertion and nonsupport, which are related to the case of her missing children.

Where are the children?

  • It’s unclear where Vallow Daybell’s children are right now. But family members suggested in recent interviews that both of the children are safe.
  • Vallow Daybell’s sister, Summer Shiflet, told CBS News that she believes the children are safe and sound. “I don’t know all of her reasons for doing what she’s doing. But I know she has … has the reasons.”
  • Vallow Daybell’s mother. Janis Cox, insisted that Lori Vallow wouldn’t do anything to hurt her children, too. She would never harm her children. And I know her,” Cox said, as I reported for the Deseret News.
  • “She’s invested her whole life in those children,” she told CBS News. “So we know there’s another whole side to this. We don’t know what it is. But we know her.”
