Trader Joe’s and Instacart will soon offer employees and shoppers a little extra cash if they get the COVID-19 vaccine.
What’s going on?
Vaccinations continue to happen across the country. Trader Joe’s, Instacart and other companies want to pay employees and shoppers for getting their two doses of the vaccine. Of course, not everyone is eligible. Here’s the breakdown.
Instacart
Instacart will pay $25 to shoppers who take time off to get a COVID-19 vaccine. In-store shoppers and full-service shoppers (who deliver groceries) will be eligible.
- “Since the start of the pandemic, the health and safety of the entire Instacart community has been our top priority. With COVID-19 cases continuing to rise across the country, we’re taking proactive steps to advocate that government agencies recognize Instacart shoppers as critical essential workers who deserve early access to vaccines,” said Apoorva Mehta, Founder and CEO of Instacart in a statement.
- “Our goal with the introduction of our new Vaccine Support Stipend is to ensure that, when the time comes, Instacart shoppers don’t have to choose between earning income as an essential service provider or getting vaccinated.”
Trader Joe’s
Meanwhile, Trader Joe’s announced it would give employees two hours of pay per dose of the vaccine that they get, according to USA Today. The company will shift scheduled to make sure people have time to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
