Google’s Super Bowl commercial was a bit hard to follow unless you know how advanced smartphones can be.
It showed a man getting feedback from the Gemini personal assistant, which was helping him prepare for a job interview.
Through his answers and the images that flash on the screen, it gradually becomes clear that the man plans to tell his potential bosses about being a dad.
He practices explaining the stress — and joy — of raising his daughter, noting that he learned how to work long hours (after sleepless nights), stay organized and negotiate (especially about bedtime.)
Once you figure out what’s going on, Google’s commercial becomes a tearjerker.
Parents and kids alike have been touched by its depiction of fatherhood — even those who were slightly creeped out by the advanced AI.
The New York Times ranked it as the 11th-best commercial that aired during Sunday’s game, but also noted that some would be put off by the idea of having such an emotional conversation with Google’s Gemini tool.
“The national ad for Google’s Gemini personal assistant is likely to be the most slickly handsome production in the field,” the article said.
Anna Lulis, who has more than 70,000 followers on X, called Google’s commercial “the greatest pro-parenting Super Bowl ad in American history.”
“The culture is shifting. Corporate America is now promoting marriage and having kids,” she wrote.
Google’s ad on the Gemini personal assistant that comes with Google Pixel phones was one of a few Super Bowl commercials on the growing power of AI.
“Meta had actors Chris Pratt and Chris Hemsworth advertising its AI-powered Ray-Ban smart glasses, and OpenAI, which developed ChatGPT, (made) its Super Bowl commercial debut in 2025,” USA Today reported.
