Ammon Smith, who has been decorating his house for Halloween for seven years, talks about building a tank out of scrap wood and old painting drop cloths in front of his home in Salt Lake City on Monday. In addition to the tank, the Area 51 scene includes an alien research facility, a spaceship and illuminated alien egg pods. For the past seven years, Smith has built elaborate displays, including dinosaurs, a pirate ship, a haunted train, a giant dragon and King Kong climbing the Empire State Building. Nearly everything he builds for Halloween is upcycled. For those who want to take a peek at the display, Smith lives near 1500 South on 900 East.
