DRAPER — A fast food restaurant in Draper was ordered to close Sunday after a customer shot a video that appears to show an employee urinating in the kitchen.

County health officials ordered the Rancheritos at 12250 S. State to “close and sanitize all food preparation areas,” according to Salt Lake County Health Department spokesman Nicholas Rupp.

He said the department visited the restaurant after receiving an online complaint that referenced the video.

A man going through the drive-thru early Sunday said he saw what appears to be an employee urinating in the corner, and posted the video online because he wants people to be aware.

The video of the worker had been shared on social media, and shows a man standing in the same area for several seconds before appearing to zip his pants up.

“I love Rancheritos. I’ve eaten there many times. It’s just kind of disturbing when you see this. You kind of don’t want to go back. You kind of just want to stay away,” the customer, Robert Talivakaola, said.

Talivakaola said the video was viewed 70,000 times before Facebook removed it from the site.

Health officials “confirmed that a food handler there exhibited a willful disregard for food safety and acted inappropriately in a food preparation area,” Rupp said, but did not go into details about what was seen on the video. The employee’s food handler permit was revoked, according to Rupp.

“The establishment may reopen only after meeting with the (Salt Lake County Health Department) Food Protection Bureau and undergoing a complete reinspection, including verification of employee training,” Rupp said in a statement.

Phone calls to the restaurant Sunday were not answered.
