SALT LAKE CITY — Six people were ejected during a car accident in southern Utah Monday, leaving one woman dead and several injured.

About 7 a.m. roughly one mile west of the exit for state Route 24 on I-70, a Toyota 4Runner in the westbound lane drove off the left side of the road. The car then “sharply came back across the road to the right” before driving off the highway again and hitting an embankment, according to a statement from the Utah Highway Patrol.

Troopers say the collision with the embankment caused the car to roll “numerous times.” Six of the car’s eight occupants were not wearing a seatbelt, according to the UHP, and were ejected during the rollover.

One woman, whose identity has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Other occupants received varying injuries from critical to nonlife-threatening and were transported to local area hospitals,” troopers said. Foreign nationals from at least three different countries were involved in the crash.

Troopers say there was fog in the area at the time of the crash, but have not determined whether visibility was a contributing factor. UHP and the State Bureau of Investigation are investigating the accident.
