PROVO — Even first responders were a bit befuddled and put to the test Monday when three hikers in unrelated groups fell at Stewart Falls above Sundance within 30 minutes of each other, each requiring medical attention.

“It is beautiful weather and people want to get out there,” said Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Spencer Cannon.

It was just before noon Monday when a 43-year-old woman from Hawaii tripped and fell and broke her leg. While emergency personnel were attending to her, a 19-year-old woman and 9-year-old boy apparently got too close the edge of the falls and tumbled 40 feet to the ground.

Cannon said the boy was having a hard time breathing and had to be flown by helicopter for medical treatment. The 19-year-old woman also suffered injuries to her torso.
