SALT LAKE CITY — Deseret News reporter Amy Donaldson filmed protesters shaking hands, embracing and talking with police during Monday night’s protest against police brutality at the Salt Lake City police station.

“Thank you for what you do,” said one man as he reached out to shake an officer’s hand.

The weekend’s unrest resulted in dozens of arrests, two destroyed police cruisers and widespread vandalism. Continued volatile protests across the country prompted Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall and other city officials to enact a preventative weeklong curfew.
