MIDVALE — Police on Wednesday identified the man killed on a motorcycle by a suspected drunken driver Tuesday as Albert Higginson, 81, of Midvale.
Unified police report the crash happened just south of the intersection of 7200 South and State Street on Tuesday about 5:30 a.m.
Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray described it as one of the “worst crashes” she’s ever seen.
A car traveling north in the southbound lanes struck Higginson head-on, killing him, Gray said. The car then hit a second vehicle making a right turn onto State Street. The driver of the second vehicle suffered minor injuries.
Speed and impairment were believed to have been factors the crash, Gray said.
Police found THC in 22-year-old Cesar Rivera Herrera’s vehicle and arresting officers smelled alcohol on his breath, according to a police affidavit. He was arrested for investigation of automobile homicide.
