ELBERTA, Utah County — Firefighters are responding to a 500-acre wildfire, dubbed the Elberta Fire, that ignited southwest of Goshen Friday night.

The Utah Department of Transportation reported the blaze had closed both directions of U.S. 6 about three miles west of Elberta as of 7:24 p.m.

Initially called in around 6 p.m., flames reached about 4 to 5 feet high, according to officials. No structures were threatened at the time.

Utah Fire Info tweeted Friday night at 9 p.m. that firefighters are experiencing wind speeds above 50 mph, and fire crews are transitioning into a Type 3 incident management organization.
