Students turn their tussles from right to left during the spring and summer graduation ceremonies at Stewart Stadium at Weber State University in Ogden on Saturday. The road to Stewart Stadium was uniquely challenging for more than 5,500 graduates who managed to find ways to finish certificates, associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Weber State University during a pandemic that upended nearly every aspect of society. They celebrated their accomplishment with a commencement ceremony in the school’s football stadium, fully masked and 6 feet apart, with each of them allowed to invite up to four family members. “The graduating class of 2020 will always be remembered as those who had the determination to complete their college education during a time of historic tumult,” said WSU President Brad Mortensen. “I applaud their grit and tenacity and know they will use these strengths to continue to lead and succeed.” Crystal Call Maggelet, CEO of FJ Management Inc. and member of the Utah Board of Higher Education, addressed the crowd on a warm, clear summer night. And business administration major Clarissa McEuen represented the graduates as the student speaker. School officials surprised the graduates with a fireworks show at the end of the commencement.
