SPRINGDALE, Washington County — A 43-year-old man died after an accidental fall while hiking at Zion National Park last Wednesday.

Washington County Sheriff’s Sgt. Lucas Alfred told KSL on Monday the man fell from a “lower-level” area in Spry Canyon while he was canyoneering.

Park officials responded to the area after the man was discovered unresponsive. Lifesaving measures were performed but unsuccessful, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Alfred.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office responded to investigate the death. It is being called accidental, but an investigation remains underway.
