David Lee, offensive coordinator at the University of Arkansas, was hired Saturday as head football coach at the University of Texas at El Paso, school officials announced.

Lee replaces Bob Stull, who resigned to take the head coach's position at Missouri after leading the Miners to a 10-3 season, their best record ever.Lee, 35, joined the Arkansas staff in January of 1984, coming from New Mexico, where he was offensive coordinator.

At Arkansas, he coached quarterbacks and fullbacks and also handled recruiting for north central Arkansas, southeast Missouri, Houston and all quarterback prospects.

A high school all-state quarterback at Pensacola, Fla., Lee played college football at Vanderbilt, where he led the Southeastern Conference in passing his senior year and was named the team's most valuable player and captain. He played in the 1974 Peach Bowl.
