Foreign Minister Siddhi Savetsila confirmed Wednesday that Khmer Rouge guerrillas have seized the key town of Pailin in western Cambodia and said they had captured tanks and artillery.

The seizure of the town near the Thai border Sunday was a major victory for the Khmer Rouge in its 11-year battle to topple the Vietnamese-installed government in Cambodia.Government officers had vowed to hold onto the gem-rich area.
