Weber State defensive back Mike Babb has received player-of-the-week honors from Sports Illustrated and Don Hansen's Football Gazette, both coming on the heels of his play in the Wildcats' 45-35 victory over Idaho State last week.
Babb, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound senior from Fullerton, Calif., was previously named as the Big Sky Conference Defensive Player of the Week after setting a school single-game record with four interceptions against ISU - the fourth being a 25-yarder returned for a touchdown. He also had five unassisted tackles and four assists. His nine interceptions for the season puts Babb as the leader for both the Big Sky and the NCAA Division I.In being named as Sport Illustrated's defensive player of the week, Babb becomes the first Weber State football player to receive the magazine's award.
