The Soviet Union announced Monday it has printed a map of Moscow that corrects half a century of intentional inaccuracies perpetuated to maintain a cloak of secrecy over the capital.
The official Soviet news agency Tass said the new map includes every one of the city's 3,100 avenues, squares, streets and lanes and a complete index of their names. In line with Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev's drive to discredit the rule of Josef Stalin, Tass said the late dictator implemented a policy of deliberately altering maps of cities throughout the country.
Tass did not say how many copies of the new map were printed or where it would be distributed.
