The Utah Valley Regional Family History Center will offer free classes in family history research Sunday, July 8.
Located on the fourth floor of the Lee Library on the Brigham Young University campus, the center is open from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. It offers free guided tours (scheduled in advance), consultants to help with individual problems and videos on basic genealogical subjects, in addition to the classes.Computer courses offered Sunday will include the PAF (Personal Ancestry File) workshop for the Macintosh, 11 a.m.; Macintosh beginning PAF, 2 p.m.; beginning IBM computer and PAF software, 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.; PAF enhanced features for IBM, 5 p.m.; and converting International Genealogical Index data to PAF and WordPerfect on IBM.
Other classes include beginning research phase I, 10 a.m.; ward consultant training, 2 p.m.; and learning to use the BYU library, with a film and tour every half hour.
In addition, special classes presented by Jay and Marilyn Grant will include "Understanding the Family History Library Catalog on Computer" at 2 p.m. and "Using the International Genealogical Index on Computer" at 3:30 p.m. Alma Heaton will teach "Having Fun at Family Reunions" at 4 p.m.
