The San Francisco Blackhawks took the Maryland Bays to overtime and a penalty-kick tiebreaker before bowing 2-1 in the 1990 American Professional Soccer League Championship Game at Nickerson Field in Boston.

The Blackhawks were first in the APSL West's North Division, just ahead of the Salt Lake Sting who finished second. The sting were eliminated by Colorado, which was beaten by San Francisco. The Blackhawks went on to defeat the L.A. Heat in the APSL finals.
