Chuck Shelton, who resigned as Utah State University football coach after the 1991 season, will stay in the Big West Conference and was announced as the new head coach at University of the Pacific at a press conference at noon MST today. Shelton replaces three-year coach Walt Harris, who left the Tigers Jan. 13 to be quarterback coach for the New York Jets of the NFL.

Utah State, 5-2, 5-6, finished third in the Big West, winning its last four games including 21-14 over Pacific, after Shelton announced on Oct. 28 that he would resign at the end of the season. Pacific was 5-6, 4-3.
