Garrison Harmann kicked a 21-yard field goal with 44 seconds remaining in the game to lift Glendale Community College to a 9-8 upset of 12th-ranked Mesa Community College in the final weekend of Western States Football League action.

In other WSFL games Saturday, No. 3 Ricks College finished the season 8-0 in league play and 10-0 overall with a 34-7 drubbing of Arizona Western College in Yuma. Meantime, No.8 Snow College dumped Dixie College 23-9 in St. George, Utah.Eastern Arizona College stopped New Mexico Military Institute 20-14 in a non-league game in Roswell, N.M.

In addition to his game-winning kick, Harmann booted field goals of 20 and 32 yards. With the win, Glendale earned the right to host the Valley of the Sun Bowl Thanksgiving Day in Phoenix. Mesa's scores came on Roger Schenks field goals of 30 and 35 yards - boots that set a school record of 12 field goals in a season.

Kevin Stephens, in only his second start of the season, completed 13 of 21 passes for 194 yards and one touchdown with Mark Harris on the receiving end of six of the passes for 114 yards. Ricks will either play in the Real Dairy Bowl in Pocatello, Idaho, or the Mid-America Bowl in Tulsa, Okla.

Trailing 9-6 with 10:50 remaining in the third quarter, Snow scored 17 unanswered points to pull out the win. Matt Bates rushed for 96 yards in the game and scored Snow's go-ahead TD and Cody Allred, with six catches for 140 yards, caught a 32-yard scoring strike early in the fourth period.

Paul Reed completed touchdown passes of 14 yards to Ryan Suttles and 43 yards to Tracy Wingert in Eastern Arizona's win. NMMI's Darcy Parks rushed for 91 yards and one touchdown and Mike Martin caught seven passes for 111 yards and one score.
