Clyde Lewis is now back on the air, but he's had to find a new home at KJQN (FM-92.7, 95.5, 104.9 and AM-1490). Lewis most recently was morning co-host at KMGR. His status at "Magic" was put on hold after Mark Van Wagoner announced his departure from the station. Lewis is on KJQ from 5:45-10 a.m. with co-host Kerry Jackson.
He also worked previously at KZHT and with "Jon and Dan" at KLZX."Clyde is exactly what KJQ has needed," Scott Gilreath, station vice president and general manager said. "His wacky humor, character voices and in-depth knowledge of Utah combined with his love for alternative music makes Clyde the perfect partner for Kerry Jackson."
Jackson had been without a permanent co-host since the majority of the former KJQ staff left the station last year. KJQ thought it had a replacement earlier this month in Mo Mellady from California, but she was lured away by a Sacramento radio station within a week.
"I'm excited about KJQ's approach to Modern and Alternative music," Lewis said. "It's refreshing to be working with people who are excited about their station and put their efforts into producing a great sound. I hope to bring credibility to KJQ. KJQ is still and will remain dedicated to bringing modern music to Utah listeners. We're not changing, just evolving," he concluded.
KJQ's remaining regular lineup is Allison Strong from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.; John Doe from 3-7 p.m.; Jane Ramone from 7 p.m. until midnight and Justin Case from midnight until 5:45 a.m.
- KBZN (alias "The Breeze," FM-97.9) - The station was featured in the Feb. 14 edition of "Radio and Records," a trade publication. The honor came because the station had one of the greatest gains in listeners, ages 25-54, compared to other New Age Contemporary Music stations, based on the fall Arbitron ratings book.
KBZN has taken a no-nonsense approach to radio and has no contests and only a few prize giveaways. It concentrates on music. Dale Nelson, station program director, has to take a lot of the credit for the station's rise to success.
Here are upcoming programming highlights for the station:
Sunday, March 1, Outback and "Dance the Devil Away" will be featured on "Musical Starstreams, (8-10 a.m.) Later in the day, "Jazz Trax," (7 p.m.-midnight) will have guest Dan Siegel.
The station's "7 O'Clock CD" schedule for next week is: Monday, March 2: "Excusez-Moi," by Peter White; Tuesday, March 3: "Primal Magic," by Strunz & Farah; Wednesday, March 4: "Curves Ahead," by Rippingtons; Thursday, March 5: "Collection," by Dave Grusin; and Friday, March 6: "Playing with Fire," by San Riney.
- KISN (FM-97.1/AM-570) - Earlier this month, the station staged some sensational promotional events ranging from the "I'm Too Sexy" contest to the "Cher and Cher Alike" event.
"Fisher and Todd" arranged the "Sexy" contest, a lip sync to the popular song "I'm Too Sexy" and when it was all over, Monaco Trujillo was judged to be the winner.
Lisa Allgood, singing "I Found Someone" was the winner in KISN's "Cher" contest and Jenny Walters was randomly selected as the winner in the station's Grammy nomination contest.
