Two all-pro football players and an Olympic athlete will speak at a free motivational seminar Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the BYU Marriott Center.
Todd Christensen, Bart Oates and Mike Schlappi will share personal experiences about overcoming obstacles to succeed in athletics and in life.Christensen currently is a top color analyst for National Football League telecasts on NBC. He was a five-time all-pro tight end for the Oakland and Los Angeles Raiders. He is the only tight end in the history of the NFL with 1,000 receiving yards in four seasons (1983-86).
An All-WAC fullback at BYU, Christensen graduated in 1978 with a degree in psychology-social work.
Oates has championship rings from both the now-defunct USFL and the NFL. A center for the New York Giants, he has played on two Super Bowl championship teams (1986 and 1990) and has been all-pro the last two seasons. A native of Albany, Ga., Oates was All-WAC at BYU in 1982.
Schlappi was a gold medal winner at the 1988 Summer Olympics as a member of the U.S. wheelchair basketball team. He won the U.S. Open championship in tennis last year, and plans to participate in the Barcelona Olympics later this summer. Schlappi graduated from BYU in 1987.
