Philip Doyle kicked a 42-yard field goal with two seconds to go in regulation Saturday, lifting the Birmingham Fire to a 17-17 tie with the London Monarchs, the first in World League history.

Doyle's kick capped a 10-point fourth-quarter rally by Birmingham, which improved to 2-1-1.London, 1-2-1, had two chances to win the game in the 10-minute overtime, but Phil Alexander pushed a 39-yard field goal wide right with eight seconds left. On the next play, the Monarchs' Howard Feggins intercepted a pass by Mike Norseth and returned the ball to the Birmingham 3-yard lkine as time expired.

Norseth, who engineered Birmingham's late comeback, completed 25 of 40 passes for 251 yards. He also ran for the Fire's first touchdown, a 2-yard bootleg that gave Birmingham a 7-0 lead.

London took a 10-7 lead by halftime, Charlie Young scoring on a 2-yard run and Alexander booting a 33-yard field goal.

The Monarchs increased their lead to 17-7 in the third quarter on a 35-yard touchdown pass from Stan Gelbaugh to Bernard Ford, but Elroy Harris scored on a 1-yard dive for Birmingham at 8:49 of the fourth quarter, setting the stage for Doyle's heroics.

Barcelona 20, Frankfurt 17

At Frankfurt, Germany, Scott Erney fired a 9-yard touchdown pass to Tony Moss with less than three minutes to play to cap a comeback victory by the Barcelona Dragons over the Frankfurt Galaxy.

Frankfurt blew a 17-0 lead built on two touchdown passes by Mike Perez.

Barcelona scored its first touchdown on Adrian Jones' 37-yard run with an intercepted pass.

Teddy Garcia kicked two 38-yard field goals for the Dragons.

Frankfurt jumped in front 10-0 on a 6-yard touchdown pass from Perez to Richard Buchanan in the first quarter after Robbie Kean kicked a 26-yard field goal in the opening minute.

Barcelona improved to 3-1 and has sole possession of first place in the European Division. Frankfurt fell to 2-2 before a home crowd of 34,376.

San Antonio 23, Sacramento 20, OT

In Sacramento, Calif., Jim Gallery's 28-yard field goal with 6:12 to play in overtime lifted the San Antonio Riders to victory over the Sacramento Surge.

Sacramento, entitled to an equal number of overtime possessions by league rules, was stopped on its lone possession in the extra session and lost for the first time in four games. The Riders improved to 3-1.
