George Smith Dibble, born March 29, 1904, Laie, Oahu, Hawaii to Edwin Cleveland Dibble and Emma Jane Smith, died of cancer Monday, June 1, 1992 at his home.
Married May 18, 1932 to Cleone Atwood in the Salt Lake LDS Temple; she predeceased him November 25, 1990.Survived by sons and their families, George Smith Dibble, Jr. (Ilene Jensen), Englewood, Colo.; Stephen Atwood Dibble (Sidney Bullen), Jonathan Atwood Dibble (Colleen Wright); and grandchildren, Andrea, George S. III, David, Anne, Stephanie, Rebekah, Elisabeth, Emily, Sarah, Mary Jane; brothers, Edwin Smith Dibble, Provo; and Asael Smith Dibble, San Carlos, Calif. Predeceased by brother, Joseph Smith Dibble and a sister, Verlie Dibble Smith.
Educated at LDS High School, Brigham Young College in Logan, the University of Utah, Art Students League in New York City, and Teachers College, Columbia University. Member of Phi Kappa Phi.
Active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Art critic for the Salt Lake Tribune, Professor of Art and Professor Emeritus, University of Utah. Taught at Murray High School, Stewart School, Brigham Young University, Utah State University, College of Southern Utah, San Jose State University, and Washington State University. Painter. Published textbook, Watercolor: Materials and Technique. Exhibited regionally, nationally and internationally. Works represented in public and private collections. Recipient of numerous painting awards. Honored as a distinguished alumnus of the University of Utah.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 5,
12 noon, in the Parley's 6th Ward, 2350 South 2100 East. Friends may call at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, Thursday evening,
6-8 p.m., and at the ward Friday, 10-11:45 a.m.
Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
