The annulment of Princess Caroline of Monaco's marriage to Philippe Junot was delayed for a decade because the French playboy refused to meet with Vatican officials, Paris Match reported Thursday.

The 35-year-old daughter of Prince Rainier of Monaco and the late actress Grace Kelly was told Wednesday the Roman Catholic Church ruled the wedding invalid because of the couple's "insufficient consent" to marriage.Caroline's two-year marriage to Junot, 17 years her senior, ended in 1980. Her second husband, Stefano Casiraghi, died in a speedboat crash in 1990.

Vatican spokesman Joaquin Navarro refused to say which of the two was judged to have not fully accepted the responsibilities of marriage.
