A funny thing happened to Jimmy Stewart on his way to a degree in engineering - and the public is the better for it.

The 85-year-old actor was studying engineering at Princeton "and I flunked math," he reminisced recently.Schoolmate Josh Logan suggested a summer job with a stock theater on Cape Cod, and by that fall he was on Broadway.
