Andy Bowers, a two-way player for Hillcrest High School, told the Deseret News Wednesday that he has verbally committed to play football for the University of Utah.

Prep recruits can't sign letters of intent until February, but Bowers says he told Ute coaches Wednesday that he will attend Utah.Bowers, a 6-foot-5, 215-pound defensive end/tight end for Hillcrest, eventually will join his older brother Ben at Utah. Ben, who is also a defensive lineman, is serving the second year of a church mission and will rejoin the Utes next December.

"He's one of the big reasons I'm going to Utah," said Bowers, a first-team all-region player who starts at center on the Huskies' basketball team.
