Phil Simms got hosed by the NFL on Thursday.

The New York Giants quarterback was fined $1,500 for wearing his white socks too high during Monday night's game against the New Orleans Saints.Under league rules, a player must show equal amounts of white and whatever color the team's stockings are, which in the Giants case is blue. Simms' white socks left only a little blue showing.

"We're blue about Phil's socks," Greg Aiello, the league's director of communications, said Thursday.

Aiello said the league was not trying to be a heavy in fining the veteran quarterback.

"Those are the rules put in place by the clubs and we're asked to enforce them." Aiello said.

Simms, who is making nearly $2.5 million this season, took the fine in stride.

"It just goes to show you how much things have changed," the 15-year veteran said. "They used to fine you $50."
