Beth Rhees Payne, 70, died December 21, 1993 at the home of her son in Cassville, Missouri of lung cancer.

Mrs. Payne was born October 6, 1923 in Pleasant View, Utah, a daughter of George and Oles Taylor Rhees. She graduated from Weber County High School and from Weber Junior College where she was student body vice president. She received a BS degree in elementary education from San Diego State College.Active throughout her life in the LDS Church, she has served as president of the Primary, ward and stake Relief Society president, Sunday School teacher, assistant to two temple matrons and with her husband presiding as the president of the Pennsyvlania Philadelphia Mission in 1977-80.

On July 23, 1943 she married Louis Kent Payne in the Logan LDS Temple.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Michael K. Payne of Cassville, Missouri; Robert L. Payne, Farmington, Utah; six daughters, Mrs. Marla Rush of Centerville, Utah; Mrs. Carleen Tanner of Boise, Idaho; Mrs. Sandra Gasparac of Kaysville, Utah; Mrs. Cecilie Rush of Piqua, Ohio; Mrs. Renee Piula of Ewa Beach, Hawaii; and Mrs. Marilee Richins of Springville, Utah. There a 39 surviving grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Dorothy anderson of Ogden, Utah; LaRene Taylor of Provo, Utah; and one brother, Gary Rhees of Pleasant View, Utah.

Funeral services will be held Monday, 11 a.m. at the Farmington South Stake Center, 695 South 200 East, with Bishop David Asay officiating. Friends may call at Lindquist's Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m and Monday at the stake center one hour prior to services. Interment: Ogden City Cemetery.
