Seven people were arrested - two of them after a chase with police - in an early morning drug raid Wednesday at a Clearfield motel. One of the seven is a juvenile and two are prison parolees, according to Paul Rapp, an agent with the Davis Metro Narcotics Strike Force.
Rapp said the narcotics strike force got a tip that drugs were being sold out of a room at the Super 8 Motel on 500 North near I-15 in Clearfield. An agent staked out the room and parking lot and was gathering information when he followed two of the persons staying in the room onto I-15, then asked Clearfield police for assistance.
When the police tried to pull the two men over, a chase ensued, Rapp said, hitting speeds up to 85 mph before the two men crashed their vehicle in Riverdale, Weber County.
The two men involved, Jerry Ficklin of Ogden, and Steven M. Elliott of Salt Lake City, suffered minor injuries but were booked into the Davis County Jail on drug-possession and felony-evading charges, according to Rapp. Both are parolees from the Utah State Prison.
Rapp said the strike force agent obtained a search warrant, and agents went into two rooms at the motel around 3 a.m. Wednesday. They recovered about an ounce of methamphetamine and $700 in cash, Rapp said.
Four people were arrested at the motel and charged with possession with intent to distribute methamphetamines, and one man accompanied by a 15-year-old juvenile male was arrested when they arrived at the motel, apparently intending to buy drugs, Rapp said.
Rapp said the investigation is continuing, and strike force agents have traced the source of the drugs to California.
