West Valley City Manager John C. Patterson has been elected president of the Utah City Management Association. This organization is composed of 100-member city managers from across the state who chose Patterson as their leader.

The Utah City Management Association is a professional organization.As city manager, Patterson is director of a new citywide strategic planning process, which resulted in the hiring of 20 new police officers. This new strategic plan is also involved in creating neighborhood organizations and establishing major, ongoing image-enhancement programs. Patterson also manages the city's development efforts, which so far have attracted 2,000 new jobs and generated $20 million in capital improvements.

Before coming to West Valley City in 1991, Patterson served as city administrator in Smyrna, Ga., for six years.
