Mae Bodily, age 87, died Saturday, December 25, 1993 at the Clearfield Nursing Center.
Born in Syracuse on January 22, 1906. She was the second child and second daughter of Joseph Phillips and Charlotte L. Stoker Bodily. She lived her entire life in Syracuse except for a two-year stay in Idaho with her brother, James, and her three-year and nine-month stay at the rest home. She attended Syracuse grade school, graduated from Davis High School. She attended Weber State College and graduated from University of Utah. She was a member of the LDS Church. She served in the Young Women's presidency and also served as president. She taught in Junior Sunday School for many years. As a child, she sang with her sister, Veda, and performed in church services all over North Davis county.
To teach is to touch a life forever. Mae did this. She taught school for 42 years: one year at West Point Elementary and 41 years at Syracuse Elementary. She took pride in helping all her students reach their highest potential. Her class always put on a program, usually at Christmas time, and she loved to play for the singing. She always presented each student in her class with a small gift at Christmas.
Mae was an avid genealogist and after her retirement, spent many hours gathering pictures and life histories of her relatives for many generations. May also loved flowers and her school room had every window full and her home was always a gay profusion of blossoms for every season, both inside and out. She could tell you the botanical name of every plant. She spent many hours gardening and tending her years. She was a good cook and a good housekeeper.
Special thanks is given to her doctor, Robert Taylor of Tanner Clinic, and to all the administrators and care givers with Clearfield Nursing and Rehab Center. She entertained them with her singing. She would harmonize with anyone who would join her, and sometimes she would raise the roof all by herself.
She is survived by two brothers, Jospeh Howard Bodily and his wife Margaret of South Ogden, James B. Bodily and his wife Melba of Declo, Idaho; three sisters, Veda B. Arave of North Ogden, Doris B. Garlick of Long Beach, Calif.; and Mrs. Harvey Petersen (Katheryn) of Syracuse; also, six nephews and six nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Ross Stocker Bodily, and two nephews and one niece.
