Our latest Rookie Comic Strip is an all-new offering, but its creator is certainly not new to the nation's comics pages.
"Chris Browne's Comic Strip" is from - you guessed it - Chris Browne. He's the son of "Hagar the Horrible" creator Dik Browne, and has taken over that strip as well. Here, in his own words, is how Browne describes himself and his "Comic Strip":
"I grew up in Wilton, Conn., in a unique and strange world of cartoonists and their families and friends. My father was a cartoonist. My mother was a wit. Their friends were some of the funniest people on Earth.
"As a teenager, I faced the choice of going to college or helping my father achieve his dream - a comic strip of his own. I put my dreams on the back-burner in favor of my father's. I'm glad I did.
"While helping my dad on his strip, I developed my own work for several magazines. At National Lampoon, Sean Kelly dubbed me their `token good-taste cartoonist. I also drew cartoons for Esquire and Heavy Metal.
"By 1993, my father's dream had become my own, something as unique and personal as I was capable of creating. Today, my long-awaited dream becomes real: `Chris Browne's Comic Strip.'
"The past two decades of my life have been full of artistic, emotional and especially romantic struggle. But while I was looking for love in all the wrong places, true love was looking for me. This comic strip is a sort of mythic retelling of my personal odyssey. Please enjoy!"
