Weber County and the Utah Highway Patrol are investigating a fatal high-speed car chase that ended when the suspect's car crashed, ejecting and killing him instantly.
Stephen C. Terneus, 19, died early Saturday after being thrown from his car, said Weber County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Paul Newey.A public-safety dispatcher said Terneus was northbound on I-15 when trooper Derek Odney clocked him driving about 73 mph shortly after 2 a.m.
When the trooper turned on his lights, the driver increased his speed to 90 mph and attempted to exit the freeway.
The car apparently ran a stop sign, hit a guardrail and rolled over, ejecting Terneus, the dispatcher said.
Odney found the body about 50 feet from the car.
Newey said deputies were called to investigate the accident, which is still under review.
