A member of Utah's most-listented-to morning radio team was arrested Monday for allegedly exposing himself to a 6year-old girl.

Kenneth Simmons, part ofKKAT's popular Cano and Simmons morning team, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail Monday night by Sandy police. He was released minutes later.

The 30-year-old Kaysville man was arrested for investigation of lewdness involving a child, a class A misdemeanor. No charges have been filed.

Simmons was arrested at ZCMI in the South Towne Mall after an employee who was watching customers inside a camera room told police she saw a man expose himself to a 6-year-old girl who was reading books in the toy department.

The employee said the man exposed himself and "stood in the department in plain view of anyone who would have been around."

The 6-year-old girl first had her back to him and did not see him, but then he walked toward the girl, stood 2 feet behind her and exposed himself again, a Sandy police report states. The girl then turned around and faced the man.

The child walked away and the employee detained the suspect.

After being read his Miranda rights, Simmons denied any wrong-doing and said he had tried on a pair of Levi's before entering the department.

"He stated that he was `rearranging' himself and did not intend or know that he had exposed himself. He also stated how he was married and had three children," the report states.

Sandy police officer J. DuVal wrote, "I viewed the videotape and it was obvious to me that Kenneth was not just rearranging himself.

He clearly exposed himself twice in the presence of the juvenile victim."

Officers spoke with the girl who was looking at books, and she told them she saw the man's "butt." The girl's mother, however, said the child does not know the names for genitalia.

Simmons told the Deseret News the entire incident is a "complete misunderstanding" and said he never exposed himself.

"I was just tucking my shirt in," he said. "It was probably not a wise thing on my part to do that there . . . I'm definitely not guilty of that charge."

After being booked into jail, Simmons was released to PreTrial Services and will be required to check in with them daily, either in person or by phone, and must also undergo a psychological evaluation.

Simmons and co-host Richard Cano started together at KKAT as "The Morning Guys" in the fall of 1990. Simmons does news, traffic and weather on the program. Originally from Logan, he previously worked for KISN, Z-95 and Y-98 in Utah.

According to ratings from spring 1993, 152,100 different people along the Wasatch Front listen to the KKAT morning show during a given week.
