Timpview and American Fork, perhaps the two best high school girls basketball teams in the state this year, met Tuesday night on the Thunderbirds' home court, but it definately wasn't a preview of a state championship matchup.

American Fork, which entered the game with a 9-0 record and an average victory margin of 28 points, was outscored 36-24 in the second half as Timpview battled back from a halftime deficit to win 64-58. The T-birds (9-0) "held" American Fork star Julie Krommenhoek to 16 points on the night, about half her average. Mary Stewart drew the defensive assignment on Krommenhoek, earning praise from her coaches in the process. While these two teams have been region rivals for years, this season they may both wind up as region and state champs. The high school realignment prior to this school year moved American Fork up to the newly created 5A classification, while Timpview remained in class 4A.

Cheryl Fakler scored 17 to lead Timpview, while Susie Bell added 13. Tori Allen had a team-high 17 points for the Cavemen.
