Expectant mothers be advised - if you hang in there just a few more days, it could be worth the wait for you and your baby.

Twelve area merchants are sponsoring the First Baby Born in 1994 contest. The winner will be the first infant delivered after the stroke of midnight Saturday in Salt Lake County. Time of birth entered on the baby's birth certificate by the attending physician, along with the place of birth, weight, sex, name of baby, parents name and address, will determine the winner.A newspaper representative will receive birth lists from University, LDS, Pioneer Valley, Cottonwood, St. Mark's, Holy Cross, Holy Cross Jordan Valley and Alta View hospitals. For babies born elsewhere to be eligible, the Deseret News must be notified before noon Saturday.

In addition, the doctor must register the birth immediately with the Utah State Board of Health.
